June 14th – June 20th

Welcome back to The Louisville Plug.

This week Louisville is packed with culture and celebration. We've got Pride taking over the waterfront, glow in the dark Cosmic Baseball at Slugger Field, a weekend of Juneteenth celebrations downtown, and a free car show cruising historic Whiskey Row.

Most importantly: a Korean spot that Morgan Tyler says you need on your list immediately.

Okay, now let's get into this week. 👇

🍜 The Local Rec
A Louisville local’s food rec, every week.

This week’s rec comes from: Morgan Tyler

Morgan Tyler is a Louisville based fitness creator helping women 30+ stay consistent by doing less. Her whole vibe is making movement feel cozy and sustainable instead of overwhelming, with bite sized strength and yoga built for real life and an antidote to burnout. Between her workouts and her genuine love for the city, she has a great eye for the kind of spots that fit an intentional, feel good lifestyle. When someone this dialed into wellness and balance points you toward a local favorite, it's worth a look. This week's rec is no exception.

Their Rec: Sarang Korean

Why they love it:
"Sweet little mom and pop type shop. The food is always fresh and consistent, made by the owners. The atmosphere is always quaint and cozy!”

“Quick and healthy takeout!”

Sarang Exterior

The go-to order:

“Dolsot with beef. The hot stone bowl keeps the food so warm and the rice gets a little crispy and chewy. I also love the variety of fresh veggies to contrast the warm rice, and popping the jammy egg on top. Plus the spicy red sauce - an elite sensory and flavor experience!”

Dolsot with beef!

Be sure to follow Morgan on Instagram at @findingmorgantyler and let her know if you check out this week's spot! Sometimes the best self care is a good workout, and sometimes it's great local food. Why not both?

⚜️ What’s Happening in Lou?
We curate 3 events worth your time each week.

🗓️ Saturday, June 20th | Starts @ 10am
📍 Historic Whiskey Row, W Main St to E Main St
💸 Free

Downtown shuts it down for one of the most laid back free events of the month. The Whiskey Row Car Show closes the streets from 100 West Main to 299 East Main to show off vehicles, with live music and vendors starting at 10am. Whether you're a gearhead who knows every make and model or just someone who likes a good Saturday stroll, cruising historic Whiskey Row lined with standout cars is an easy and fun way to spend the morning.

Pair it with the Cosmic Baseball block party or the Pride festival happening the same weekend and you've got a full Saturday downtown without spending a dime to get in.

🗓️ Saturday, June 20th | Parade @ 12pm / Festival until 10pm
📍 Great Lawn at Waterfront Park (entrance off River Road)
💸 GA $10 / Ages 5 & under and 65+ Free

One of the largest LGBTQ+ celebrations in Kentucky takes over the waterfront with an estimated 20,000+ people, and this year's lineup is stacked. The parade kicks off at noon in NuLu at Campbell Street and runs to the Big Four Lawn, where the festival rolls until 10pm. Natasha Bedingfield and Saucy Santana co-headline the Stonewall Main Stage, with Tanner Adell, Grant Knoche, Molly Grace, VOICES of Kentuckiana, and special appearances from RuPaul's Drag Race stars Nina West and Naysha Lopez.

It's family friendly with kids activities until 5pm, and refillable water stations will be on site to keep everyone going all day. Quick heads up: no backpacks allowed, so pack light. This is one of the best days of the entire Louisville summer.

🗓️ Friday, June 19th @ 7pm (pregame block party beforehand)
📍 Louisville Slugger Field, E Main St
💸 Ticketed via the Cosmic Takeover Lottery

This is baseball like you've never seen it. Cosmic Baseball is a glow in the dark spectacle that's been featured on The Today Show, ABC News, Sports Illustrated, and MLB Network, with the Chili Peppers and Glow Mojis taking the field under black light in neon uniforms with glow in the dark baseballs. Part ballgame, part neon party, fully unlike anything else on the summer calendar. Each night kicks off with a pregame block party with autographs, merch, and live music.

Heads up: the June 20th game is already sold out, but a second night was just added on the 19th. Your only shot at tickets is entering the Cosmic Takeover Lottery, so don't wait on this one.

🗓️ Friday, June 19th | 1pm – 7pm
📍 Fourth Street Live, S 4th St (Downtown)
💸 FREE

Celebrate Juneteenth at the sixth annual "Ancestors Dream" Block Party, organized by the MELANnaire Marketplace right in the heart of downtown. From 1pm to 7pm you'll find live entertainment, family activities, a history and education area, food trucks, a Black art gallery corner, and a full day long marketplace spotlighting local Black entrepreneurs selling food, art, and retail goods.

It's a vibrant, free, and deeply meaningful celebration of freedom and legacy, and one of the best ways to support Black owned Louisville businesses while soaking up the downtown energy. Bring the family and make a day of it.
