Welcome back to The Louisville Plug.
This week is a packed one. We've got goat races taking over NuLu, Opening Night at Slugger Field, and a donut shop that's been flying under the radar for too long.
Most importantly: We've locked in an exclusive discount on one of the best ways to experience this city like a local.

🍔 The Local Rec
A Louisville local’s food rec, every week.
This week’s rec comes from:
Shannon @ sweptawaycollective
If you're not already following Shannon, stop now and add her to your feed. She's a Louisville based photographer and the owner of Swept Away Collective, bringing a creative eye and genuine love for this city to everything she does. Between capturing some of Louisville's most special moments through her lens and staying tapped into the best the 502 has to offer, her recs come from a place of real passion and real roots in this community.
Their Rec: Lindsay’s Kitchen
Why they love it:
"I love the home town feel and the personal service they give every time.”
“The food is always fresh and delicious, and you can tell that it’s not just frozen reheated food or powdered potatoes or anything like that.”

The go-to order:
“My go to order is the loaded potato skins for a starter and the Lindsay burger with a side of mashed potatoes with brown gravy.”

I have to give her a special shout out too, she just photographed our engagement and absolutely crushed it. Safe to say we trust her taste in more ways than one! 🥂

⚜️ What’s Happening in Lou?
We curate 3 events worth your time each week.
🗓️ April 18th @ 3pm
📍 Waterfront Park
💸 Free
It doesn't get more Louisville than this. Thunder Over Louisville is one of the largest fireworks displays in North America and the official kickoff to Kentucky Derby Festival season, and this year it hits different. The 2026 theme, "Thunder in the U.S.A.," celebrates the country's 250th anniversary with a synchronized air show, drone displays, and the kind of fireworks finale that reminds you why you love living here.
The whole city shows up for this one, and for good reason. Stake out your spot on the waterfront early, bring the family, and don't forget a blanket. This is the one event every Louisville local has on the calendar without question.

🗓️ April 17th @ 5pm
📍 Broad Run Park, Parklands of Floyds Fork
💸 Free
If you've never made it out to The Parklands, Earth Day Fest is the perfect excuse to finally go. One of Louisville's most underrated green spaces hosts a free evening festival with live music, food, beer, and activities for all ages. Expect free tree giveaways, local vendors with eco-friendly goods, and community partner booths spread across the park.
It's the kind of event that reminds you how much Louisville gets right when it comes to community. Friday evening, free admission and fresh air. It’s an easy yes.

🗓️ April 17th @ 7pm
📍 KFC Yum! Center
💸 Ticketed Event - $50+
Country fans, this one's for you. Riley Green brings his Cowboy As It Gets Tour to the Yum Center Friday night with Justin Moore, Drake White, and Mackenzie Carpenter rounding out the lineup. If you haven't grabbed tickets yet, now's the time. A night like this at the Yum Center fills up fast and the floor goes quick.
