October 18th – October 24th

Welcome back to The Louisville Plug.

This week is a strange and wonderful mix. We’ve got the Louisville Orchestra blending Mahler with Biggie and Tupac, Journey’s farewell tour at the Yum! Center, a phone free night with Dave Chappelle, and 150 artists turning Waterfront Park into a chalk gallery.

Inside this issue:

  • ⚜️ What's Happening in Lou: Mahler meets Biggie and Tupac, Journey’s last tour, Dave Chappelle, and Via Colori on the waterfront.

  • 💸 Insider Perks: 50% off CBDistillery with code NEWS50 and 500+ chef made meals from CookUnity.

Okay, now let's get into this week. 👇

⚜️ What’s Happening in Lou?
We curate 4 events worth your time each week.

🗓️ Saturday, October 24th 10am – 6pm / Sunday, October 25th 10am – 5pm
📍 Big Four Bridge Lawn at Waterfront Park
💸 Free

More than 150 artists spend the weekend on their hands and knees turning the pavement at Waterfront Park into over 140 chalk street paintings, and you can watch the whole thing happen for free. Add live music, a food court, bounce houses for the kids, and plenty of cosplay. It’s family friendly and pet friendly, and every dollar raised goes to Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana.

Pro tip: if you can only go once, go Saturday around 3 or 4pm when most pieces are finished. Then come back Sunday evening to watch it all get washed away, which somehow ends up being the best part.

🗓️ Saturday, October 24th @ 7:30pm
📍 KFC Yum! Center
💸 Ticketed

One of the biggest names in comedy brings the Karmageddon tour to the Yum! Center for one night only. The thing to know before you leave the house: this is a phone free show. Every phone and smartwatch gets locked into a Yondr pouch at the door and stays locked until the night ends.

Two practical tips. Give yourself extra time at the doors for the pouch line, and if you’re meeting friends there, lock in your plan before you walk in.

🗓️ Thursday, October 22nd | Doors 6pm / Show 7:30pm
📍 KFC Yum! Center
💸 Ticketed (8 tickets per order max)

The band has been clear about it: this is the last one. Journey’s farewell tour brings five decades of hits to Louisville, which means Don’t Stop Believin’, Faithfully, and Separate Ways sung back by twenty thousand people. That alone is the reason to go.

If you grew up with Journey on in the car, this is your last chance to see them live. Tickets cap at eight per order, so if you’re going as a group, buy together in one transaction.

🗓️ Wednesday, October 21st @ 7:30pm (doors 6:30pm)
📍 Whitney Hall at The Kentucky Center
💸 Ticketed

This sounds like a joke, and it’s the most interesting ticket in Louisville this week. Conductor Steve Hackman takes Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 and weaves the catalogs of Biggie and Tupac straight into it as one continuous two act piece. Not a medley. Act One pairs Mahler with songs about struggle and the East Coast West Coast feud, and Act Two builds toward Mahler’s triumphant finale.

Juicy, California Love, Hypnotize, and Changes are all in the program. Send this one to anybody who’s ever said the orchestra isn’t for them.
