October 11th – October 17th
Welcome back to The Louisville Plug.
Enjoy this compact list of things to do this week as we pivot and decide on what will bring the most value to our readers. We have heard consistent feedback that being able to easily skim and see fun things to do around Lou is a big reason to want to open the plug.
We will continue to look for ways to improve the event curating and reading experience and find new ways to support it with other additions to the newsletter.
I hope you have a great week ahead of you! Thanks for reading!

⚜️ What’s Happening in Lou?
We curate 4 events worth your time each week.
🗓️ Friday, October 16th – Saturday, October 17th
📍 Fourth & Jefferson, outside the Kentucky International Convention Center
💸 Free
This includes a free Shaggy concert in downtown Louisville. That alone would earn a spot here, but it’s just the headliner of a brand new two day festival built around the Humana APP Louisville Open, which means you can also watch the best pro pickleball players in the world for free.
Friday is a 3 to 6pm street party with music, food trucks, and outdoor courts. Saturday goes bigger with free clinics, a Kids Zone, a brass Pickle Band, and public voting in a Kentucky Proud pickling competition. Want to play? The PickleY’all Playground inside the Convention Center runs 8am to 8pm both days with open play and a Beat the Pro station, no reservations needed.
🗓️ Saturday, October 17th | 2pm – 7pm
📍 RePurposed on Museum Row, W Main St
💸 Free admission / $20 limited edition stein includes a free pour
Thirteen local breweries pour Oktoberfest and seasonal beers on Main Street, with polka from Boom Pah Pah and German food all afternoon. The schedule is the fun part: ceremonial keg tapping at 2pm, a dollar off beers until 3, then a yodeling contest, best dressed, stein hoisting, and a schnitzel toss to close it out.
Grab the $20 stein early since they’re limited. Proceeds support keeping downtown clean and safe, and the Louisville Downtown Partnership is offering a limited number of $20 Uber vouchers so you don’t have to think about getting home.
🗓️ Thursday, October 15th – Sunday, October 18th | Saturday 12pm – midnight
📍 Pope Lick Park, off Pope Lick Road near Fisherville
💸 Free general admission (haunted trail and tours ticketed separately)
Four nights of Kentucky folklore at the home of the Pope Lick trestle and the legend of the Pope Lick Monster. General admission gets you guest lectures, outdoor creature feature screenings, live dark folk and rock music, and a market of 50+ art and oddity vendors.
This year’s talks cover the Pope Lick Monster, the Loveland Frogman, Mothman, and a local true crime panel. If you want to go all in, the haunted trail, guided tours, and sideshow are ticketed add ons. Saturday is the day to go, with doors at noon and music running until midnight.
🗓️ Friday, October 16th – Sunday, October 18th | Tours depart every 15 minutes from 6pm
📍 Conrad Caldwell House Museum, St James Ct
💸 $44.34 including fees
America’s most haunted neighborhood becomes live theater for three nights only. Guided groups walk the gaslit streets of Old Louisville and step inside historic homes where costumed actors bring the neighborhood’s ghosts and darker history to life, all by lantern light. Author David Dominé is on hand to meet guests and sign books.
Tours run about two hours, rain or shine. Two things to know before you book: it sells out every year, and it isn’t wheelchair accessible because of steps and uneven terrain.
