November 1st – November 7th

Welcome back to The Louisville Plug.

Spooky season may be over, but this week still has plenty worth getting out for. We’ve got Blade Runner with a live score at the Palace, a real serial killer expert at the Kentucky Center, the Veterans Parade marching through NuLu, and the final ColorFest ever at Bernheim.

Most importantly: we’re giving away two pairs of tickets to Paranormal Cirque, plus Plug readers now get 20% off wine at a Frankfort Ave favorite.

Inside this issue:

  • 🍣 The Local Rec: A sushi spot with a tuna cracker worth obsessing over, plus a coffee order to go with it, via @baddiewithabellyyy.

  • ⚜️ What's Happening in Lou: Blade Runner Live, Dr. Katherine Ramsland, the Kentucky Veterans Parade, and the last ColorFest at Bernheim.

  • 💸 Insider Perks: 20% off any wine at The Wine Room and a Paranormal Cirque ticket giveaway.

Okay, now let's get into this week. 👇

🍣 The Local Rec
A Louisville local’s food rec, every week.

This week’s rec comes from:
Kayla @ baddiewithabellyyy

Meet Kayla, a Louisville mom, wife, and full time corporate girlie who somehow runs Excel by day and social media by night. Her content takes real life moments, plus a little trauma, and turns them into the kind of posts that make people laugh, feel seen, and actually show up for themselves. Her motto says it all: never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Lucky for us, this week’s rec needs no exaggeration.

Why they love it:
“I love supporting local spots and highlighting all the cool places Louisville has to offer. Sunergos is my favorite coffee shop in the city. Each location brings a different vibe, but the coffee is always perfect.”

“I love sushi all over. Dragon King’s Daughter is one of my favorites, but lately I’ve been obsessed with Sapporo.”

Their go-to order:
“My favorite drink in Louisville is the Sunergos coconut latte when it’s in season, and a regular vanilla latte with oat milk otherwise.”

“For food, it’s the tuna cracker from Sapporo. I keep coming back for it!”

Be sure to follow baddiewithabellyyy on Instagram and let Kayla know if you get your hands on a tuna cracker!

⚜️ What’s Happening in Lou?
We curate 4 events worth your time each week.

🗓️ Saturday + Sunday, November 7th + 8th | 10am – 4pm
📍 Bernheim Forest and Arboretum, Clermont
💸 $30 per carload

After 30 years, Bernheim is retiring ColorFest, so this weekend is your last chance ever. The final run brings back everything families love: giant slides, pumpkin rolling, the corn pit, a mud pie kitchen, face painting, food trucks, and arts and crafts vendors. Every carload pays the member rate this year, so pack the car and it becomes one of the cheapest family days of the fall.

Hayrides are back, but space is limited, so reserve your spot as soon as you arrive. It runs rain or shine, dogs stay home, and Bernheim is about 30 minutes south of downtown.

🗓️ Saturday, November 7th | Parade @ 11am, celebration until 1:30pm
📍 E Market St, NuLu (stage at Clay & Market)
💸 Free w/ free parking

The Kentucky Veterans Parade marches down East Market Street Saturday morning, and once it wraps, the block turns into a celebration. Kids can climb on tanks and Jeeps at Touch a Tank, there are interactive displays up and down the street, and the afternoon builds to the Massing of the Colors around 12:15 and a 21 gun salute around 12:30.

Streets close at 10:30, so get there early. The easiest way in is the free TARC shuttle, running every 15 minutes from 10am to 2pm from the Slugger Field lot and from Market at Hancock.

🗓️ Friday, November 6th @ 7:30pm
📍 Bomhard Theater at The Kentucky Center
💸 Ticketed

If you’ve ever fallen down a true crime rabbit hole, this is the real expert, not a podcast host. Dr. Katherine Ramsland has spent more than 30 years studying serial killers, including years of work with the BTK killer, Dennis Rader. Friday she breaks down how these killers operate, what drives them, and how they keep up double lives, with visuals throughout and an audience Q&A at the end.

Recommended for ages 16 and up. The Bomhard has stadium seating with stairs, and accessible seating is available.

🗓️ Thursday, November 5th @ 8pm
📍 The Louisville Palace, S 4th St
💸 Ticketed

Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner plays on the big screen while live musicians perform Vangelis’s synth score in sync with the film. That score is one of the most influential pieces of electronic music ever written for a movie, and hearing it live under the Palace’s ceiling of stars is about as fitting a setting as it gets.

It’s for movie people as much as music people. Buy through Ticketmaster or the Palace box office rather than resale sites.
