October 25th – October 31st
Welcome back to The Louisville Plug.
Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, which means the whole week is fair game. Start Thursday with whiskey and costumes at a 1920s Spookeasy, spend Friday either inside one of the most haunted buildings in America or floating down the Ohio with ghost stories and a silent disco, then close it out Saturday on Hillcrest, where the neighbors take their front yards very seriously.
Pick your scare level. We’ve got you covered either way.
Inside this issue:
🍔 The Local Rec: A hometown favorite with fresh food and a burger worth the trip via @sweptawaycollective.
⚜️ What's Happening in Lou: Michter’s Spookeasy, Waverly Hills, Ghosts on the River, and Halloween on Hillcrest.

Okay, now let's get into this week. 👇

Their Rec: Lindsay’s Kitchen
Why they love it:
"I love the home town feel and the personal service they give every time.”
“The food is always fresh and delicious, and you can tell that it’s not just frozen reheated food or powdered potatoes or anything like that.”

The go-to order:
“My go to order is the loaded potato skins for a starter and the Lindsay burger with a side of mashed potatoes with brown gravy.”

⚜️ What’s Happening in Lou?
We curate 4 events worth your time each week.
🗓️ Saturday, October 31st | Trick or treating 5pm – 8pm
📍 Hillcrest Avenue, Crescent Hill
💸 Free
Every October the homeowners on Hillcrest Avenue go all out: block after block of animatronics, projections, and full front yard productions that take weeks to build. It’s grown into a destination that pulls people in from out of state, and you can tell the neighbors are competing with each other. Halloween night is the main event, rain or shine.
With Halloween on a Saturday this year, expect the biggest crowd Hillcrest has seen in a while. Last year the street was closed to cars with free entry at the Frankfort and Brownsboro ends, so plan to park on a side street and walk in from one end. Go early if you have little ones, and bring a canned good for United Crescent Hill Ministries.
🗓️ Friday, October 30th & Saturday, October 31st | Gate B opens 7:30pm, last entry by midnight
📍 Enter at Gate B, 8501 Standing Oak Dr
💸 $20 General Admission / $60 RIP / $5 cash parking
One of the most famous haunted buildings in America is fifteen minutes from downtown. Waverly Hills is a 1910 tuberculosis sanatorium, and for a few nights each October the real building becomes the haunted house. General admission covers the full first floor.
The $60 RIP ticket is the one to know about. It adds fast pass entry plus a mini tour of the sanatorium itself, and that tour isn’t sold separately, so it’s the only way to see inside beyond the haunt. Before you go: enter at Gate B on Standing Oak Drive, not the Pages Lane address, bring $5 cash for parking, and don’t roll up at 11:45. Tickets are nonrefundable and it’s not for young kids.
🗓️ Thursday, October 29th | 7pm – 9:30pm (doors 6:50pm)
📍 Frazier Kentucky History Museum, W Main St
💸 $59 (21+)
A 1920s speakeasy Halloween party inside the Frazier, and your ticket covers a lot: Michter’s cocktails, whiskey tastings paired with candy, hors d’oeuvres, live music, fortune telling, a haunted scavenger hunt, and a costume contest. Every guest also gets a Witches’ Magic Libations drink.
Dress code is 1920s or Halloween, but cocktail attire works if you’d rather skip the costume. It wraps at 9:30, so it’s a Thursday night out that won’t wreck your Friday. These sell out, so don’t wait.
🗓️ Friday, October 30th | Two hour evening cruise (check booking page for departure time)
📍 Belle of Louisville Riverboats, W River Rd
💸 $39.99 adults / $37.99 seniors (21+)
Two hours on the Ohio after dark with a silent disco, ghost stories about the boats themselves, and Halloween drink specials, all for about forty bucks. The downtown skyline lit up over the river does a lot of the atmosphere work on its own. Food and drinks are sold on board.
The one rule that matters: get there at least 30 minutes early. The boat leaves on time with no refunds for late arrivals, and that lot backs up fast on a Halloween weekend Friday.
