Center, a weekend of beautiful weirdness at the World Oddities Expo, the start of Louisville's nine-day Juneteenth Jubilee, and Baby Keem lighting up Paristown Hall.

Most importantly: a French bakery that an anonymous reader swears you need to check out.

Okay, now let's get into this week. 👇

🥖 The Local Rec
A Louisville local’s food rec, every week.

This week’s rec comes from: An Anonymous Reader!

The Louisville Plug is lucky to have readers who know good spots when they find them, and this week one of you came through with a great one. Sometimes the best recs come from the people quietly exploring the city and paying attention, no follower count required.

Their Rec: Paris Baguette

Paris Baguette is a French inspired bakery and café serving up a wide spread of fresh pastries, cakes, and coffee in a bright, clean, modern space. It's the kind of spot that's perfect for a slow morning coffee, an afternoon treat, or just somewhere comfortable to post up for a bit.

Why they love it:
"The variety here is unreal. Pastries, cakes, coffee, you name it and the case is full of it. Everything feels fresh and the space itself is so clean and bright. It just has really good vibes the second you walk in.”

“They've also got a great outdoor seating area that's going to be the perfect spot once the weather chills out.”

The go-to order:

“You have to get the fluffy Belgian waffle thing with strawberries on it. I don't even know the official name for it but it's incredible. Grab that, a good coffee, and a couple pastries to take home because you'll want them later.”

Fun pastries

⚜️ What’s Happening in Lou?
We curate 3 events worth your time each week.

🗓️ Friday, June 12th @ 7pm (Doors @ 6pm)
📍 KFC Yum! Center
💸 Ticketed (AXS only, NOT Ticketmaster!)

Country's breakout "Professional Cowgirl" is bringing her very first arena headlining tour to the Yum! Center, and catching it this early in the run means you're getting all the fresh energy of a tour that just kicked off two weeks ago. Expect the hits from Am I Okay? including "No Caller ID" and the title track, plus new material off her third album Cloud 9. She's the 2024 CMA New Artist of the Year and right now one of the most talked about voices in country music.

Two quick logistics worth flagging before you go. Tickets are sold exclusively on AXS and will not show up on Ticketmaster, so don't get fooled by resale traps. And the I-65 closure running June 1st through July 31st could snarl traffic near the arena, so map your route ahead and give yourself extra time.

🗓️ Saturday, June 13th – Sunday, June 14th | 11am – 7pm (VIP early access @ 10am)
📍 Kentucky Exposition Center, East Hall
💸 GA $20 / VIP $25 / Kids 12 & under Free with an adult

If you want a weekend that's unlike anything else on the Louisville calendar, this is it. The World Oddities Expo is a traveling oddities festival where the weird and the wonderful collide: artists, vendors, performers, educators, and guest speakers all under one roof. Shop the Lost Curio Marketplace for taxidermy, insects, macabre art, jewelry, and home decor, get inked on-site at the Oddity Ink Parlour, or sign up for hands-on WOE Labs workshops like taxidermy and insect pinning.

Add in live entertainment and the WOE Theater with guest presenters and you've got one of the most uniquely shareable events of the month. Bring your camera, this one was practically built for it.

🗓️ Thursday, June 11th – Friday, June 19th | 9 day celebration, times vary
📍 Multiple Louisville venues, including Waterfront Park
💸 Most events Free

The Juneteenth Jubilee Celebration kicks off a full nine days of programming honoring the holiday that marks the effective end of slavery in the United States. This year brings over 10 events across the city, including a children's art camp from Louisville Visual Art at Waterfront Park, a pageant hosted by WLLV and WLOU, and a "Race for Justice" honoring Breonna Taylor.

The youth art camp runs June 13th through 17th for ages 7 to 12, introducing campers to the works of Ed Hamilton, Muhammad Ali, and the Underground Railroad. It's meaningful, community-rich programming all building toward the free Louisville Juneteenth Festival later in the month. A great week to show up, learn, and celebrate.

🗓️ Friday, June 12th | Set time TBD
📍 Old Forester's Paristown Hall, Brent St
💸 Ticketed

Grammy winning rapper and producer Baby Keem, cousin and frequent collaborator of Kendrick Lamar, brings his high-energy hip-hop to Old Forester's Paristown Hall, one of the best mid-size venues in the city. Known for tracks like "family ties" and "savior," he's a serious draw for the 18 to 30 crowd and Paristown Hall is the perfect room to catch him in.

Heads up, June 12th is a genuinely stacked music night across Louisville. Baby Keem at Paristown, Megan Moroney at the Yum! Center, and North Mississippi Allstars at Mercury Ballroom all going the same evening. Whatever your taste, the city's got you covered Friday night.
